Florida Senate District 16 candidate Jack Latvala will launch his Republican campaign fundraising with a Tuesday evening gala at the Tampa Yacht and Country Club.
The former state senator said the event will feature a 66-member “high-powered Tampa committee … literally a who’s who of the Tampa business and political community.”
“I am pleased and very appreciative that so many leaders in Tampa have agreed to support my campaign, and I will work hard to represent the community effectively in Tallahassee,” he said in Friday’s statement. His host committee headliners are former Gov. Bob Martinez and wife, Mary Jane, and former district 16 Sen. Jim Sebesta and his wife, Jean.
The host committee list also includes Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee and four Hillsborough County Commissioners, Mark Sharpe, Rose Ferlita, Jim Norman and Ken Hagan.
“I am also pleased to note that several members of the committee, such as Lee Moffitt and L. Garry Smith, the first chief of staff to former Gov. Bob Graham, have been active Democrats,” Latvala said in his announcement. “Their support is indicative of the support that I believe I am gaining across party lines in Disitrcit 16 and will help produce victory in November..
Latvala served as senate majority leader from 1998-2000.
He faces Democrat Nina Hayden in the Nov. 2 general election
