Republican Hillsborough County commission candidate Margaret Iuculano, challenging Democratic Commissioner Kevin Beckner in the District 6 race, has launched a thinly veiled anti-gay attack on Beckner, the county’s first openly gay commissioner.
In a fundraising letter to supporters, Iuculano links Beckner to an “ultra-liberal style San Francisco agenda.”
“San Francisco, controlled by a radical, left-wing city council, continues to impose the same agenda Kevin Beckner is attempting to force on Hillsborough County,” Iuculano says in the letter.
San Francisco, of course, is known a city where gay activists have become influential in politics.
Iuculano doesn’t mention any gay rights issues in the letter. Instead, she brings up Nancy Pelosi and illegal immigration, and says, “As conservatives successfully fight to shut down the liberal agenda at the state and federal level, the radical left shifts its attention to America’s city halls, county commissions and local courthouses,” and asks donors to “promote our shared values by sending me a check.”

This is a big mistake. Some people in Republican circles are very concerned that this may backfire on her. In fact many are saying that she herself has an issue herself that may come out in the campaign, hopefully not. Glass houses are the wrong way to go here and Republicans stop the whispering about her. Loose lips will surely sink the ship!

This is race baiting!
Who the hell thinks of San Fran as a “gay” city in the first place?
I am a proud GAY MAN – and my vote goes to the politician with a plan; Iuculano.
