Former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio’s first book, “Straightforward, Ways to Live and Lead,” is scheduled for release in November, according to her Facebook and Twitter pages.
Iorio, who left City Hall in April after eight years in office, oversaw a period of progress marked by massive public works improvements, crime reduction and work on the sprawling Riverwalk project along the downtown waterfront.
Towards the end of her tenure as mayor, she grappled with layoffs and budget cuts needed to offset the city’s fiscal woes, and has been credited by her successor, Bob Buckhorn, with having left the city on a stable financial footing.
Her political career began at age 26 in 1985, when she became the youngest person elected to the Hillsborough County Commission. From 1993 to 2003, she served as the county’s supervisor of elections.
Her career and how she made the decisions she did will be chronicled in the forthcoming book. In addition to writing, Iorio has been trying to carve out a new career as a leadership and motivational speaker.
