A plan to create a high-tech corridor along Interstate 4 between Tampa and Plant City may be revisited as early as today. Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham said he will revive the corridor plan at a commission workshop on planning at 1:30 p.m.
“If we’re going to make everything connect to drive economic development, we’re going to have to go back and look at it and find the connectivity between Tampa and Plant City,” Higginbotham said.
The last time commissioners addressed the plan was in July 2010, when a tie 3-3 vote killed a motion to have the state reveiw comprehensive growth plan amendments to create an “overlay district” for industry and research along the interstate. Residents from rural and Seffner and Dover united in opposition to the plan saying it would add traffic to U.S. 92 and I-4 and finish off what’s left of their country lifestyle. Terry Flott, who led opposition to the corridor in her area, said she hopes to attend the workshop.
