GOP fundraising document doesn’t highlight Florida races

There’s been a minor controversy over a secret, internal Republican Party fundraising document made public after it was left in a Florida hotel room, but Florida Republicans may be more interested in what the document says, or doesn’t say, about the top two races in Florida this year.

The controversy arises because of what the document says about the GOP’s planned fundraising pitch.

It asks, “What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate?” The answers include “fear” and “Save the country from trending toward Socialism!” It also includes the now well-known charicature of President Barack Obama as The Joker from Batman, and of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as Cruella Deville.

But it also includes a list of the “Top Targets” for the party in 2010. Neither the Florida governor’s race nor the Florida U.S. Senate race are listed—even though both are open seats and at least one or possibly both are likely to be closely contested.

No response so far from the national Republican Party or its governor’s campaign committee on why; a spokeswoman for the party’s Senate campaign committee referred MOP to the national party.

The omission also seem strange because the GOP governor’s campaign committee appears to be spending heavily on an ad bashing Democratic candidate Alex Sink.

You can check out the document here, courtesy of Politico. Apparently, an attendee at an event for major GOP donors left a copy in a hotel room in Boca Raton in February, and a Democratic source handed it to the political news site.
