GOP “emergency meeting” tomorrow; Okaloosa party votes against Greer

A meeting to discuss the concerns of state Republican Party officials worried about the administration of the party—including some upset at state Chairman Jim Greer—will be held tomorrow near Orlando.

Meanwhile, Okaloose County Republican Party Chairman Barbara Wall confirmed that two nights ago, the county party organization passed a resolution expressing lack of confidence in Greer as chairman. The Okaloosa party had earlier voted for Marco Rubio in a straw poll on the U.S. Senate primary between Rubio and Gov. Charlie Crist.

The proposal for the meeting originated when 20 of the 38 members of th estate party executive board demanded a secret, “emergency meeting” to discuss party problems. They said they were upset by recent negative news stories including allegations of financial mismanagement and party workers taking sides with Crist against Rubio.

Greer was Crist’s choice for the post and backs Crist in the primary, but insists he has kept the party neutral in the race.

Some Greer critics have speculated the meeting might be the start of a move to oust Greer as chairman, but others among those who asked for the meeting are Greer backers.

The meeting, for executive board members, won’t be open to the press or public.
