Fred Thompson To Address Local Bar

Posted Apr 23, 2007 by William March

Fred Thompsopn—lawyer, actor, senator and possible candidate for president—will wear two of his many hats in Tampa May 10 when he speaks to the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation’s Law and Liberty Dinner.

Thompson has followed an unusual career path. He began as a lawyer and assistant U.S. Attorney, then was elected to the U.S. Senate.

His acting career began when he played himself in a movie about a famous legal case he was involved in—“Marie,” about Marie Ragghianti, whistleblower who exposed a bribery scandal in the Tennessee prison system.

He continued acting and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994. he has since become famous as the gruff, businesslike district attorney in the TV series Law and Order.

All that, the bar foundation said, gives Thompson “a unique perspective of law, politics, and Hollywood.”

Thompson is mulling a presidential run but hasn’t announced a decision. His big disadvantage—he’d be coming in way behind the three leaders in fundraising and organization-building in a year when primaries will be early and nominees all but chosen by February, 2008. His big advantage—his fame, built-in name or face recognition and Hollywood cachet invite comparisons to the superhero of today’s Republicans, Ronald Reagan.

Finally a candidate worth supporting is coming out!! If you look at the straw poll on the Amrican Family website www.afa.net he is way ahead of the other poor choices we have for this coming election. Hands down he has my vote, check his record straight down the line everytime.  We can’t say that about the flip floppers that have announced their candidacy so far on either party! It is such a shame that politics has become a game of the rich and the very filthy rich who have no idea of what the other 98% of us americans deal with everyday. But hey when you can blow 30 million just on advertising who cares anyway

I am holding my breath waiting for Fred to enter the race.  I truly believe he is the one conservative in the party who can “talk” to moderates and independents and get them to listen.  Even if they disagree with Fred’s view on an issue, Fred will still command their respect.
