President Bush has nominated Nancy Goodman Brinker of Palm Beach, to be the next Chief of Protocol for the United States, the White House announced today.
Brinker, who was U.S. ambassador to Hungary from 2001 to 2003 and founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is also a major Republican Party fundraiser.
If confirmed by the Senate, Brinker will hold the office of ambassador and will be responsible for planning, hosting and officiating at ceremonial events for visiting heads of states, and coordinating the logistics for these visits – including visits at the White House with the president.
The chief of protocol also travels with the president abroad, coordinating plans with the White House advance office and host country officials.
She would succeed Donald Burnham Ensenat, who has resigned.
