FAU prof says Tampa is the natural choice for 2012 GOP convention

If a party chooses a location for its national convention based on what’s politically advantageous, Tampa should be the favorite for Republicans in 2012, contends Florida Atlantic University history, government and politics professor Ronald Feinman.

In a recent blog post on his blog, The Progressive Professor, Feinman argues that the two other site contenders, Salt Lake City and Phoenix are located in reliably Republican states, whereas Florida, which usually votes Republican, went for Barack Obama in 2008.

The party’s site selection committee will visit the Tampa Bay area on March 28-29.
