Cox, Dougherty, Goudreau, Latimer and Proctor among likely SOE applicants

Applicants to replace the late Phyllis Busansky as Hillsborough County elections supervisor are likely to include a Tampa environmental consultant, a veteran Republican political consultant, a former Tampa Tribune editorial page chief and the current second-in-command at the supervisor’s office.

There are sure to be more applicants, however, before Gov. Charlie Crist appoints an interim supervisor to hold the post until a new one can be chosen in the November 2010 election.

Those who have expressed interest or requested applications from the governor’s office so far include:

*Janet Dougherty, who has been active in the local Republican Party. She’s a former board member of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and a consultant for companies on environmental issues.

*Rosemary Goudreau, former Tribune editorial page editor and, before that, managing editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer. After leaving the Tribune last year, Goudreau started ProCitizen Media, a public issues media company.

*Craig Latimer, Busansky’s chief of staff and a former Hillsborough sheriff’s major. Latimer is currently supervising operations of the office in Busansky’s absence.

*Mark Proctor, a business and political consultant and real estate agent.

Proctor and Dougherty, formerly known as Janet Kovachs, both applied for the post when former Gov. Jeb Bush appointed former Supervisor Buddy Johnson in 2003.

Update: To the list of persons interested in applying to replace Busansky, we can add Mark Cox, formerly of the county public defender’s office, now chief of investigations for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. Cox is also a former 2003 applicant .

Does anyone think there’s a chance he’ll appoint Sen. Storms?

She will certainly fit his need to satisfy the “conservative base.”

She could also stick around long enough to get her “High 5” for government retirement.

And, best of all, we’d get her out of our hair in Tallahassee.

Sounds like a win-win-win to me…
