State Sen. Paula Dockery of Lakeland, who ran briefly in the Republican primary for governor and has been the subject of speculation as a possible running mate for Rick Scott, said this morning she’s not interested in the job.
Dockery was among a group of legislators who met with Scott as part of a series of party unity events in Tampa today.
She’s been the subject of speculation about the post because she has a reputation as something of a maverick—fitting Scott’s outsider image—but as a veteran legislator could bring some legislative experience to his administration.
Dockery said her husband, long-time GOP activist Doc Dockery, has health problems, and the couple don’t want to move to Tallahassee.
“We would have moved there for me to be governor, but not lieutenant governor,” she said.
Dockery, who had dinner with Scott and his wife Sunday night, said she thinks he’ll choose a female running mate, but wouldn’t guess who. Thursday is Scott’s deadline to name his choice, and Dockery said his campaign staff is assembling a list of potential candidates to give him tomorrow.
