Paula Dockery of Lakeland announced this afternoon that she raised $325,000, including in-kind contributions, during the last fundraising period for her gubernatorial campaign.
That includes a $100,000 loan from Dockery herself “to jump-start” operations, according to her campaign.
The state senator announced at the start of November (just after the start of Q4) that she was challenging state Attorney General Bill McCollum in the GOP primary contest for governor. Her tally, according to the campaign, includes cash contributions of $291,734, and in-kind contributions of $33,479. Dockery had a total of 1,078 contributors, most of whom gave her cash in December.
“$325,000 in seven weeks is amazing, especially in these tough times,” Dockery said in her release. “I am humbled by the generous support we’ve received from all over the state in such a short period of time. At this rate, this campaign will have all the financial support we need to deliver our common-sense conservative message across the Sunshine State this election season.”
In challenging McCollum, the insurgent Republican has her work cut out for her. McCollum has raised $3.3 million to-date. The lead Democratic candidate, state CFO Alex Sink, has raised a total of $5 million.
Dockery’s campaign noted that this was not only her first fundraising quarter—which included a special legislative session, during which she was unable to raise money—this is also her first statewide race, and that she is challenging the “perceived Republican frontrunner.”
“As for our opponents,” Dockery said, “they have been raising money since last summer and while they may have a head start, they should keep two things in mind: one, Paula Dockery is in this race for the long haul. And two, objects in the rearview mirror are closer than they appear.”
