As expected, state Republican Party Vice Chairman Lenny Curry of Duval County won today’s election for chairman of the state Republican Party without opposition; Blaise Ingoglia, chairman of the Hernando County party, outpolled Chairman Lew Oliver of Orange County and Chairman Kathleen King of Manatee for vice chairman.
The late Dave Bitner, state party chairman who died two weeks ago of Lou Gehrig’s disease, had recommended Curry as his successor, in part because Curry had participated in the party’s planning for the coming election year and could add continuity to political efforts, party officials have said.
The party executive committee voted on a replacement for Bitner and a vice chairman to replace Curry at the party’s Presidency 5 convention in Orlando today.
Ingoglia, previously the party’s assistant treasurer, got 20 votes on the executive committee to 7 for King and 6 for Oliver.
