A joint Congressional committee has signed off on a spending package that will provide $50 million in security funding for the 2012 Republican National Convention that will be held in Tampa next August..
The appropriation – tucked into a $182 billion measure intended to keep the federal government running through Dec. 16 and fund several agencies in 2012 – is slated for a vote by the House of Representatives and a final Senate vote as early as Thursday.
The money will be used to hire, provide housing and food for more than 4,000 additional law enforcement officers from across the region who will provide security at the event, as well as surveillance cameras, riot gear and other security equipment for police officers.
