Atwater won’t jump in the Senate race

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, who roiled the Republican U.S. Senate primary last week by announcing he was seriously considering jumping into the race, has decided not to, according to a posting on his Facebook page.
“As much as Carole and I are humbled by your calls, notes and messages to enter the US Senate race and carry our banner into the fight we believe we have a responsibility to finish the job Floridians elected us to do,” finishing his 2010-14 term as CFO, he said.
That means Atwater will stay on what looks like a collision course with Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, both of whom are considered likely to run for governor—possibly in 2014.
