7 U.S. Troops, Including 1 From Navarre, Killed This Week

An Army private from Navarre was one of six U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan last week. An Arm specialist was also killed in Iraq.

Pfc. Adam E. Dobereiner, 21, of Moline, Ill., died Nov. 18 at Kandahar province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

Spc. Sean M. Walsh, 21, of San Jose, Calif., died Nov. 16, in Khowst province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained after encountering indirect fire.  He was assigned to the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, Pittsburg, Calif.

Two soldiers died Nov. 16, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.  They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

        Killed were:

        Spc. James R. Burnett Jr., 21, of Wichita, Kan.; and
        Pfc. Matthew C. Colin, 22, of Navarre, Fla.

Spc. David E. Hickman, 23, of Greensboro, N.C., died Nov. 14, in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered after encountering an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Spc. Calvin M. Pereda, 21, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Nov. 12, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered after encountering an improvised explosive device while on dismounted patrol.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Sgt. 1st Class Johnathan B. McCain, 38, of Apache Junction, Ariz., died Nov.13, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered after encountering an improvised explosive device while on mounted patrol.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

There have now been 1,823 casualties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and 4,478 casualties in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
