Debbie, a 20-year veteran journalist, can typically be found at the end of Target aisles looking at clearance items. She’s also been known to send one her young daughters through the checkout lane to redeem a coupon.

Free admission to Legoland for world record event

On Thursday, May 24, Legoland Florida will attempt to break the record for the largest number of beach balls simultaneously thrown in the air. 

To reach this goal, Legoland is offering free admission to the first 400 guests in line at the main entrance at 9 a.m.

Those guests will also recieve free admission to the new Legoland Water Park, a free T-shirt and beach ball.

Free school physicals for student athletes

The Hillsborough County Back to School Coalition is offering free sports physicals for all Hillsborough County student athletes.

On June 2, football players only are invited to make an appointment for a free physical at D1 Westchase Sports Medicine, 6918 Gunn Highway Suite C, Tampa. Appointments are offered between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on that day only. Call (813) 443-3048 to make an appointment or for more information.

A second day, Aug. 4, is offered for athletes of all other sports to make an appointment for a free physical from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free summer reading program for Clearwater kids

The Clearwater Public Library system will participate in a free “Dream Big Read!” summer reading program for school-age children.

Kickoffs for the program are scheduled the second week in June and are followed by weekly enrichment programs. Activities include nature and science demonstrations, magic shows, dance performances, professional storytellers, origami and more. In addition, participants read books and weekly prizes are awarded to those who report their reading accomplishments.

Parents can sign up their children to participate at these locations: Countryside, Tuesday, June 12; East, Saturday, June 9; Main, Monday, June 11; and North Greenwood, Tuesday, June 12.

All programs are at 2 p.m.

Branch programs and days vary and are titled accordingly: Countryside, “Terrific Tuesdays;” East, “Wacky Wednesdays;” Main, “Magnificent Mondays;” and North Greenwood, “Tremendous Tuesdays.”

Free teen fitness for summer

Once again, Lifestyle Family Fitness will offer free teen memberships to help kids keep in shape over the summer.

Through Aug. 15, teens ages 12 - 17 can enjoy access to any LFF club all day on weekends and until 4 p.m. on weekdays, participate in group fitness classes, participate in strength and cardio clinics and more for free. 

Teens must bring a parent on their first visit to the club to sign up.
