I expected a ton of outrage at the news that Delta had put two kids – one boy and one girl - on flights to the wrong city. Instead, people are making comments like, “Oh, they’re old enough to have read the name of the city and spoken up” and “The boy had a girl’s name, so I can see how that could happen.”
Honestly, I’m shocked. These are children, not luggage, that got put on the wrong flights. The girl was supposed to go to Cleveland and ended up in Boston. The boy was supposed to be in Boston and ended up in Cleveland. I don’t care that his name is Kieren and that he’s 9. He is a child that was traveling alone across the country under Delta’s supervision. Imagine how scary it would be to get off the plane and not see anyone you know. For all you wondering, the girl’s name and age have not been released.
Yes, Delta did the right thing by putting the kids’ on the next plane available to the correct cities and by comping their tickets, giving the families vouchers toward future travel and by apologizing. But it doesn’t excuse the lax oversight that allowed this mix-up to happen in the first place.
