Roundup of freebies and deals for veterans, military

Several Tampa Bay businesses and other groups are scheduling freebies and discounts to honor veterans and military during the month of November and on Veterans Day. We’ve rounded up several that we know about, but if you know of others leave us a note at!/TBOFreeandCheap

Golden Corral: From 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 11, all Golden Corral locations are offering a free buffet meal and beverage to veterans and active military members. Visit for more information.

National Park Service: November 9 – 11: Everybody can enjoy free entrance to national parks, not just military personnel, on Veterans Day weekend. To find a park near you or for more information, visit

Theme parks: Seaworld Parks & Entertainment is offering a 50 percent discount to veterans and active duty military until Nov. 11. The discounts apply to the following parks: Adventure Island, Aquatica, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, Sea World, Sesame Place, and Water Country USA. The tickets must be purchased by November and be used by Dec. 20. For more information, visit

Free car wash: Veterans and active military personnel can get a free car wash at over 2,000 locations across the country. Visit for local participating car wash businesses.

Hooters: All veterans and active duty military get a free meal on Nov. 11. Visit for details and locations.

Free concert: The Carrollwood Winds community concert band will perform a free concert honoring our country’s heroes on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 8 p.m. at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road, Tampa. For more information, visit

Great Clips:  Customers who come in for a haircut at any Great Clips salon on Nov. 11,  will receive a free haircut card to give to an active/inactive/retired military member of any branch. Military members can also come in on Veterans Day for a free haircut on that day or to pick up a free haircut card to use any day before the end of the year. Military members have until Dec. 31 to redeem the card with proof of service to get their free haircut. There is a limit one card per customer. For more information, visit

Applebees: Applebee’s will offer veterans and active duty military a free entrée as a thank you for their service.  Participants can chose from a limited entrée menu including a 7 oz. House Sirloin, Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, Double Crunch Shrimp,  Three-Cheese Chicken & Sun Dried Tomato Penne, Fiesta Lime Chicken, Chicken Tenders Platter or Oriental Chicken Salad.

Lowry Park Zoo: In honor of Veterans Day, military personnel (active-duty, retirees and veterans) will receive free admission on Nov. 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. A Department of Defense photo ID is required to redeem the offer at the ticket window. As many as three direct dependents of military personnel also are entitled to free admission on that day. Dependents may take advantage of the offer without their service member with proper ID, though an adult must accompany minors. For more information, visit

Florida Aquarium: The Florida Aquarium, located near downtown Tampa, will offer any veteran, active duty military, drilling reservist or National Guardsman two free admission tickets for themselves and a guest on Nov. 11. Up to four additional family members can also receive half-price admission on that day. Proper military ID or DD214 must be presented at time of purchase and the offer cannot be combined with any other discounts or coupons. Veterans and military can also visit the aquarium’s Cafe Ray for a special $1 “fish fry” meal on that day. The meal includes fried fish, cole slaw and french fries. For more information, visit

Legoland: Veterans are being honored at Legoland Florida through Nov. 17 with free daily admission and discounts for family members. For details, visit

United Skates: United Skates will salute military members and their families with their choice of one of two free skating sessions (noon-4 p.m. or 5-7:30 p.m.) on Nov. 11. Military and up to five family members receive free admission with a valid military-issued photo ID.  United Skates is located at 5121 N.
