Four local parents are getting full scholarships to go back to school online, and more scholarships are still available if you want to go back, too.

Since Project Working Mom launched in 2008, it has helped more than 150 parents pursue their dreams of higher education, said Helen MacDermott, content director.  It teamed up with universities on eLearners.com to provide millions of dollars in scholarship money.

“A lot of women put themselves on the back burner for years and we didn’t want to just throw them money and say good luck; we wanted to give them a support group,” said MacDermott.  “We wanted to educate working moms and online classes are a great way to do it.”

Deanna Roberts and Angela Pasco, both of Spring Hill, received scholarships to Allied Schools to enter the medical billing program.

Cassandra Mockler, of New Port Richey, also got a scholarship to Allied Schools and is pursuing the medical coding program.

Susan Martin, of Wesley Chapel, is attending Saint Leo University to get her associate’s degree in liberal arts.

Interested in getting your degree, too?  The next deadline for applications is September 30. You just have to fill out a short application and write an essay describing your goals, instances of triumph over adversity and why online education is an ideal match for you.  Three big reasons might be time, money and confidence.

“The barrier of time is really helped by online learning because it is so flexible,” MacDermott said.  The recession making things tough? The scholarships are for full-tuition and some schools bundle their books and other fees into the scholarship package, too.

In her winning essay, Martin, a single mother of two, writes, “I had never imagined that I would be able to do this. I thought after I had my children, my time for school had passed. But here I am and its going wonderful.”
