Manners Do Matter: Social etiquette for kids

Anyone who has ever been on a job interview, a date or just over to a friend’s house for dinner knows how important it is to make a good impression.

Now your kids can learn good manners that will carry them through a formal meal, a birthday party and more through a company founded by a mother-of-three in Lithia.  I even learned a few things myself in talking to Lisa Aber, the founder of “Manners Do Matter.”

“When you go to sit in a restaurant, you usually get a linen napkin that you put down immediately. But a paper napkin you shouldn’t put down until the food arrives,” Aber says.

I had no idea.

Aber offers four-week instruction courses on manners, plus two-hour boot camps on restaurant etiquette.  She has two boot camps coming up in July at Formaggio’s Restaurant in Lithia.  The two-hour session is for ages 6 to 11 and costs $39 per student.  That includes the meal.

She makes the classes fun and gives the kids easy-to-remember tips.  Do your kids get confused about how to set the table?  They won’t after this class.

Aber, who was a professional recruiter when she lived in New York, also offers college interview tips, social etiquette training for wedding parties, and customized manners programs for schools and groups.
