Wow! St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital received about $45,000 worth of toys and monetary donations during its Christmas in July event on July 23.

But more is still needed.  You can donate get gift cards, electronics, kid-friendly movies, puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, bubbles, infant toys, crib mobiles, teen games and magazines and more anytime. The items are used to restock the play rooms and are given as presents spending their birthdays or holidays in the hospital, or reach a milestone in their medical treatment.

Items for babies and for teenagers are especially needed, hospital spokeswoman Amy Gall said.  The hospital will accept previously-owned all-plastic crib mobiles and busy boxes and lullaby CDs as long as they’re in mint condition.

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital treats more than 50,000 kids a year in their Steinbrenner Emergency/Trauma Center for Children.  Sometimes their illnesses can force them to grow up too fast.  These gifts can ensure they get a chance to play just like any child would.
