Farmer’s markets are fabulous family events – good eats, no admission fee, time outdoors and lots to look at.
St. Petersburg’s Saturday Morning Market sweetens the deal for moms and dads by offering activities just for little ones. The market closes out its season tomorrow, giving you one more chance to check it out, and no one should be able to say they’re bored.
Cheeky Monkeys Books and Toys will offer free storytime featuring interactive books “More Bears!” and “Cloudette.” You and Me & Music Together and the NoiseMakers will provide the music, with instruments for the children to play as well. A yarn-spinner (sounds so fairy tale!) from Star & Crossbones is bringing her mini loom for kids to make their own yarn.
If that’s not enough, families can get a little messy and paint swings. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like, which is very cool. It’s part of a movement to install swings in public – and unexpected – places.
And finally, you can even collect some swag. A new organization called St. Pete Family Connections is officially launching and giving away info and goodies to the first 45 families who stop by.
The group is made up of local business owners (many of whom will be at the market storytime) who have classes, events and special offers for families. They want to make sure parents know what is available to them in the community.
Sounds like a great way to kick off Memorial Day weekend and bid farewell to the Saturday Morning Market. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Al Lang Field parking lot on the corner of First Street and First Avenue South. It returns in October.
