Do your kids love Dora? Come out for her birthday celebration at Walmart Supercenters from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Nick Jr. show “Dora the Explorer” is celebrating its 10th year on television. Say what you will about Dora; she has been great for my family. My oldest boy loves maps because of her and is always plotting out routes for us to follow around the house and neighborhood or at the zoo and Busch Gardens. When we use sidewalk chalk, he wants to draw a racetrack for his cars that goes through the Nutty Forest, over the troll bridge, past the bear on Blueberry Hill and across the crocodile-filled river.
Dora helped me realize my 2-year-old son was listening to everything around him. Dora was on TV, my toddler was playing with his trains and I was on my laptop when I heard his little voice pipe up, “Backpack.” I began listening, and he heard him repeat everything Dora urged, including the Spanish words for jump and let’s go.
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to go to Dora’s birthday party at Walmart. If you go, bring your favorite digital or physical photo with you, and Walmart will help you create a free 5-by-7-inch photo card. Kids will also get a free cupcake while supplies last.
