I was incredibly shy as a child and books were my constant companion. I remember reading by flashlight under the covers long after I had said goodnight to my family.
I must have read every Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery, plus all of the “Shoes” books by Noel Streatfeild. I especially loved “Skating Shoes” because one of my best friends wanted to be a professional ice skater. As I got older, I graduated to Anne of Green Gables and the Sweet Valley High series. And I devoted hundreds of hours to those choose-your-own-adventure books that were so popular in the 80s!
I still love to re-read a lot of the kid classics, including “The Secret Garden,” “Little Men,” and “Eight Cousins.”
