As I’ve said before, you can usually tell when one of us parenting bloggers is going through a lot of parenting-related stuff because like every other mom and dad, we have to prioritize. That often means the blog is the least pressing of our duties.
Back to school time is always busy, but this year my daughter started college at the University of South Florida. She and I walked around campus before the first day so she could locate her classes. To say neither of us is blessed with a strong sense of direction is an understatement, and the layout of that college doesn’t help. What a maze! It would help if those who planned the school had given different names to different roads. Seems as if every time we turned around, we were on Laurel Drive. Also, it’s very sweet that so many of the roads are named after trees, but it gets a little confusing if you’re not a botanist.
If there’s a sane directional grid to the campus, I missed it. And I attended the University of Texas at Austin, which is huge.
Only one bit of good news from the first week of school: My daughter decided to try out the Bull Runner shuttle system, and hopped on a bus, which took her straight to her parking garage. I asked her how she knew which bus route to take, and she looked puzzled. She thought all the shuttles went everywhere on campus. By some stroke of luck, she just happened to board the right one. Otherwise I fear she’d still be there, looking for her car on Laurel as she circled Maple for eternity.
