A taste of history for berry-loving kids

Have an inquisitive kid between the ages of three and five?  The Tampa Bay History Center hosts its preschoolers’ program, “A Little History” on Saturday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Preschoolers will learn about the history and impact of strawberries in our area through hands-on games, activities and songs.  They’ll make crafts including stuffed strawberries, play counting games with the berries, and learn about the plant’s stages of life and the care they need to grow. Children will even get a few strawberry seeds to bring home.  And of course, they’ll be plenty of chances for taste-testing.

It’s great timing; the Florida Strawberry Festival kicks off Thursday.

To reserve your spot for Saturday’s preschooler program, contact Jennifer Tyson at 813-675-8960.  One adult can bring two children between the ages of three and five.  The program costs $10 per child and $6 per adult.

If you can’t make this one, the History Center will host a preschooler program called Junior Archaeologists on April 17 and a program called Museum Mysteries on May 15.  Preregistration is required for those as well.

Children dressed up as pioneers, played in the Tampa Bay History Center’s Cracker Cabin, made actual old fashioned butter and real bamboo cane fishing poles as part of the February “A Little History” program.
