Free museum admission this weekend for BOA cardholders

Looking for some free weekend entertainment? Bank of America has you covered.

Bank of America and Merrill Lynch customers just need to show their bank-issued credit or debit card and photo ID
to receive free general admission to area museums on Saturday, Mar. 1 and Sunday, Mar. 2.  The offer is not good on special ticketed events or in conjunction with other offers and is only valid for the cardholder.

The program, called Museums on Us, offers free admission to about 150 museums nationwide on the first full weekend of every month.
The locally participating museums are the Florida Holocaust Museum, Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg and Tampa Museum of Art.

If you are willing to drive as far as Orlando, there are several more options you can try including the Orlando Science Center, The Orlando Museum of Art, The Mennello Museum of American Art and more.

Military treated to half-price tickets at spring training season opener

The Tampa Bay Rays will be honoring active duty and retired service men and women at their spring training season opener on Friday, Feb. 28 at 1:05 p.m. 

A special military discount is being offered for the game at Charlotte Sports Park against the Baltimore Orioles.  Active or retired personnel showing a valid military ID can purchase up to four half-price general admission seats at the box office on the day of the game. Regular price tickets range starting at $12 up to $33.50.

The game will also feature some special performances and appearances of military personnel.

The delivery of the American Flag and game ball will be attended by the U.S. Special Operations Command Parachute Team.  The Para-Commandos will perform a precision free-fall demonstration, landing in Charlotte Sports Park and Army Sergeant First Class Kyle Margelofsky will throw out the first ceremonial pitch.

Sergeant Margelofsky has deployed 10 times to Iraq and Afghanistan and has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor, the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart.

Ride the mini-trains in Largo for free

It’s mini train weekend at Largo Central Park again.

Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 1) and Sunday (Mar. 2), everyone ages 1 and older can ride the mini train for free.

The event regularly takes place on the first full weekend of each month and is approximately 1.2 miles long, winding through the landscape of the park. Rides are given until 4 p.m., weather permitting.

The rides are free, but they do accept donations to keep the program operating.

Largo Central Park is at 101 Central Park Drive in Largo.

Due to insurance restrictions, pregnant women are not permitted to ride the trains.

Free IHOP flapjacks on National Pancake Day

IHOP will once again invite guests to enjoy free pancakes during National Pancake Day on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

The annual flapjack giveaway is a fundraiser to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

During National Pancake Day more than 1,500 IHOP restaurants across the country will invite guests to enjoy a complimentary short stack of IHOP’s buttermilk pancakes when they dine in. Guests will be encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital or other local charities during the promotion. The offer is valid while supplies last and is not good with any other coupon or discount.

Heroes admitted free at Florida Strawberry Festival

It’s festival season in Florida and the annual Strawberry Fest is the next up.

The event opens on Thursday, Feb. 27 and runs through Sunday, Mar. 9.

On Wednesday, Mar. 5 it’s Heroes Day at the fair. All active, reserve, retired military, veterans, law enforcement and first responders are admitted free with valid identification.

Regular gate admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6 - 12. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free.
