A Sad Lunch Day Indeed

Yessir, that’s my potato. No sir, I don’t mean maybe.

The room at the top of the dish was reserved for the wine-braised short ribs that I made last night that were devoured. I got the recipe from Working Mother Magazine’s November issue. They actually had it as a brisket, but I don’t have 32 hours to make dinner. Ribs cook quicker.  Thursday night is literally the only week day night of the week that we do not have some regularly occurring event. So I can actually try a new recipe if I am so inclined.

Marty’s family resorted to the busy family’s fallback dinner: spaghetti. I’m guessing there was some swim practice or something last night ...

My Other Activities

I’ve been getting some cross-training in this week for really the first time since I began this training program.

Monday, I did strength training. I’ve got a program from my trainer that involves lots of lunges, hamstring curls and ab work. Plus a few weights to keep my arms from becoming completely flabby.

Wednesday, I rode my bike to work. It’s just a few blocks, but I worked up a bit of a sweat on the way home. That might have just been the unbelievable humidity.

Thursday, I took a BodyFlow class at my gym. It’s a combination of tai chi, yoga and Pilates. I’ve been doing it on and off for almost two years now, and I still find it challenging. Especially this week. I think all my running muscles were making it very, very hard for me to stay balanced. I’m going to have to practice my “trees.”

One of the songs from class has been stuck in my head all day, so I’m off to iTunes to try to track it down.

Calling All Weekend Warriors

Have you got plans for this one? If not, don’t miss out on a chance to break a sweat.

First up: Join Mayor Pam Iorio for a walk in the park Saturday. Literally.

Hey, you can get to know Pam, boost your cardio and enjoy it all at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave., Tampa. Registration begins at 8, and the walk gets under way at 9.

It’s part of her Keeping Tampa Fit initiative.

If you’d rather roll with the crowd, check out the Hilly Hundred Sunday morning in Dade City.

Yep, that’s a 100-mile ride. But if that’s not your speed, you can also go for the 18-, 34- or 63-miler. Whew!

The first riders mass start is at 7:30 a.m. at Pasco-Hernando Community College. It’s $25 to register the day of.

The best part: You can do both and still watch your favorite football games (and eat those wings sans the guilt).

No Leftovers Today

Posted Oct 19, 2006 by Janine Dorsey

I did cook dinner last night for a change. Really.

But softball does things to a kid’s appetite and there was not a grain of rice, not a cob of corn, not a scrap of cube steak left after my right fielder got done.

Maybe I should fill them up on bread and butter before the meal is served like my parents did back in the lean years.

As Marty mentioned below, we had a feast at our office yesterday. There were leftovers at the time.  I was kinda counting on that today. Especially some of that blueberry crisp or individual cheesecakes….mmmmmmm

But alas, it was not to be. So I ran to Publix for some chicken salad with crackers and watermelon. I’m gonna be sad when watermelon season is over and the prices go way up. There were no leftovers from lunch.

Marty is at some lunch with a suit.  Not eating leftovers.
