What: The Smoothie King Morning Wakeup – celebrating the new line of coffee and mo’cuccino smoothies in mocha, caramel and vanilla, Smoothie King is giving them away for free in a full 20-oz size. One per guest and no strings attached!
When: Thursday, Sept. 18, before 10:30 a.m.
Where: Smoothie King locations nationwide (there are nearly 30 locations throughout Tampa and its surrounding communities). Opening times will vary by location, and specific addresses can be found at www.smoothieking.com.
Next Sunday (9/7/08), the zoo is only $5 for everyone. Kids, parents, seniors, whatever.
They open at 9:30. Get there early so you can pack in seeing as many of the 2,200 animals as humanely possible.
Have a half-used box of stale crackers no one wants to eat? Pulverize them in a blender or food processer and use them as bread crumbs in a casserole or meatloaf recipe.
The same works for bread heels. Toast them first.
I went to Albertson’s in Britton Plaza yesterday. The store was pretty empty as they are closing forever on Wednesday.
There were still plenty of deals to be had, though.
Makeup and hair styling products were 70% off and they still had a large selection. Also, candy and gum were considered “general merchandise” and fell under the 70% off umbrella and not the lesser “grocery” category of 50%.
The greeting cards are 90% off were no deal. There were no envelopes! Unless you have a stash of weird-sized envelopes at home, I am not sure what you would do with them.
Beware of expired merchandise if you go. I found sunblock, vitamins and frozen foods with way-old sell-by dates. Some by as much as 2006!
Remarkably, the deli and bakery were still operating and I saw someone buying a pound of ham. It appeared as if that was the last item available. I am not sure I would be buying that myself. But to each his own!
I stuck to the items that would not suffer too much from being shelved for ages, like taco seasoning, dog food and Oreo Cakesters (have you seen what kind of preservatives are in those things?) I also got a very nice 8x10 picture frame for $3.
The Bay area will have a new grocery store entering the fray soon. Aldi will open several locations starting in September.
Planned stores will be in Largo, Pinellas Park, two in Tampa and more.
Some of the ways they keep prices low are by charging a deposit on the shopping cart use, not employing baggers and not allowing checks. All things that do not affect the quality of food you will be buying at a discount. Score!
If you haven’t already heard, Albertson’s grocery stores are closing.
Publix bought them out and are going to close or convert the existing locations.
In the meantime, you can get some great deals until the doors are locked forever.
Current discounts include:
Get $10 in free gas (gee, just a little over 2 gallons.... sigh) when you shop at Publix and buy participating Kraft products.
Hey, you gotta eat anyways!
Here’s the link to the form
While browsing the aisles at my local thrift shop, (the kids needed sneakers for camp and I wasn’t buying new ones - have you seen what camp does to sneakers?! They have brand new ones that they have been forbidden to wear until their big debut on the first day of school) I noticed the racks and racks of children’s jeans, all looking nearly new. Or at least as “new” as the current style of worn-out, faded and holey would allow.
Kids grow out of things so fast and inevitably will wreck the thing you spent the most on first. Why not save some money and get some of their clothes off the deep, deep discount racks of your neighborhood Goodwill store?
If you stick to just buying jeans, skirts and shorts (nicer pants don’t fare as well second-hand) and buy shirts, shoes and sweaters at regular retail, you can literally save half or more of what you would typically spend to outfit them for school. Jeans even at Target’s bargain prices run about $15 - $25. Goodwill prices all children’s clothes for ages over 2 years old at $2.07. Other thrift chains are similarly priced.
They’ll look just as nice and put together and you’ll have a healthier bottom line.
The folks at 7-Eleven celebrate 81 years with free Slurpees for all on Friday, July 11.
The deal lasts as long as the special retro-style birthday cups do.
They’re only 7.11 ounces so it might not be worth a special trip.
The offer is good at participating stores, 7-Eleven says.
Other cost savings from the ubiquitous convenience store chain: $1.99 for a quarter-pound, Oscar Mayer Big Bite hot dog plus Big Gulp drink.
Gotta love anything that makes the pain at the pump go away just a little bit.
Healthy fast-food chain Evos wants to introduce you to their alternative fuel.
Bring in a gas receipt of at least $25 between June 28th and July 1st to any Bay area Evos location and get a FREE organic milkshake!
EVOS has four locations in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area: 2774 E. Fowler Ave., 609 S. Howard Ave., 157 Westshore Plaza and 2631 4th St. North.
To check out the nutritional information of their shakes and all their other yummy stuff, go to Evos.com.
This Wednesday, June 18th, the Bay area Chipotle locations are offering a free burrito for military members!
See event description for more information.
To celebrate Father’s Day, Dad’s ride free on the TECO Line Streetcar System when accompanied by their families all day Sunday, June 15th.
The TECO Line Streetcar System operates from noon until 8 p.m. on Sundays.
Happy Father’s Day to all Dads!
Just because you are a cheapskate doesn’t mean that dad has to suffer on his special day.
Father’s Day is just around the corner and there are a few things you can do for him without spending a dime.
I got the 411 that McDonald’s will be sending out coupons for some freebies! Specifically, their new chicken biscuit.
The guy at the drive-through told me to watch my junk mail for the mailout soon.
Heads up!
TBO.com wanted to pass along this press release from a local “food-buying program.” You might want to check it out to see if it is something that would suit your food purchase needs:
