Carpets were cleaned this morning--3 months ago I would have convinced myself there wasn’t time to hit Curves before getting ready for work. Today I made a bee line for the car, zipped to Curves and am now going to throw a couple of Spicy Bean Burgers in the microwave, chug some water and jump in the shower. I never would have believed it! Another good day to savor and use action words.
I did a hard workout at Curves this morning and my heart rate was down. The good stuff just keeps happening - and I almost didn’t go to Curves today. You know the excuses: I’m too busy, need to get these things done, want to talk to friends, that good book is calling, want to relax before going into work, etc., etc. Then, I went through that list and still had time to exercise and blog. How cool.
I was thinking of something to write, and what keeps coming to me, is “one day at a time”. I think sometimes we tend to look too far ahead. Then we get discouraged because we can not live up to our own expectations. Let’s just take one day at a time. In some cases, one meal or one hour of exercise at a time! Every little change counts! So… GO TEAM! We CAN do this!! Have a great week everyone!
Today I had PLANNED on meeting my trainer at the gym at 7:30 a.m. for a strength training but I kept hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock...I just could not get out of bed. So I drank 16oz of water and slept for another 1 1/2 hour. When I got up I got my youngest daughter off to school and popped in a DVD of THE BIGGEST LOSER. I watched the two motivational sections and was sooo jazzed and inspired that I did the cardio and strength training, showered and got off to work feeling empowered and back on track.
I write this for all of you that may be just like me...sometimes with all of your great plans, life gets in the way and you don’t accomplish what you’d originally set out to do. Don’t give up! Plan for what to do when your first set of plans fall through and do it! If Plan B doesn’t work, go for Plan C! You (as I) will feel so much better for it.
This goes for fitness, nutrition, work...everything!

The scales are under 200!! 199 to be exact. I weighed in today--I bit early, and found I was down 4 1/2 more pounds, my BMI has dropped 1 point and amazingly my abdomen is 4 1/2 inches smaller (6 inches total). Shirley measured me twice, just to make sure.

I love it. And I didn’t celebrate by eating--talk about a lifestyle change--Yikes! My celebration will be buying a copy of Happy Feet, as soon as it comes out tomorrow.
Eat less. Do more. It really, really works.
Now I am off to another glorious massage. Life is good.
Hi Gang,
The last few weeks have been so difficult for me...I’ve been working 12 to 14 hour days 6 days a week. Hardly working out at all and not eating the healthiest in the world. I’ve just been exhausted from all the stress. Ugh...stop the world...I wanna get off!
The good news is that I’m refocused and ready to get back to my fitness and weight loss challenge as of TODAY. The reality of it is that my lifestyle really isn’t going to change that much...I’m still going to have to keep working hard...such is the nature of my profession. What I will have to embrace is how to manage the rest of my life. Eating healthy 90% of the time, exercising and doing my yoga to de-stress.
Thank goodness I have a great support system at work and at home and all of you of course...Support is soooo important! Thanks everyone!

OK, I can do that! No dusting. No grocery shopping. No taking out the trash. But there will be exercising - I’ll just wear my Goofy hat.
People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. - Author Unknown

I knew that, but didn’t quite believe it. I find I have really been fudging with this part of my lifestyle change. Writing down everything I eat, but not HOW MUCH. So now I am paying more attention to portions. Making sure there is more green on my plate than brown. (As a former kindergarten teacher, I love to color code my world!) Just amazed, when I pay attention to what my body is telling me, how I really do want those spinach leaves instead of cookies. Never would have believed it, but it true, it’s true.
Curves workout today. Tougher after a few days off, but my muscles were happy.

I figured if the guys were going to do fitness events, we should also. In the Health4U section of the Tampa Tribune, there is a list of upcoming events. I found one called Tour De Village in Carrollwood Village. There was a 5K and a 1 mile walk. If you have been following my blogs, you can guess which one I chose! That’s right, the 1 mile. This event was yesterday morning, which happened to be pretty cold! And no, I really didn’t keep up with the boys. They all jogged the 5K. Even Marty Strasen joined in! We all felt like celebrities with Patty Kim and the camera man snapping pictures throughout! It was pretty cool for me, the guys completed the 5K, then they were nice and walked with me and my girls. (Sonya had to work, and Brenda became sick) I sure did miss them! But, Marty Strasen walked with me as well. He even gave me some exercise tips! This was the first time I did an event with an official finish line and time clock! Pretty exciting! I thank God for a great time! Can’t wait for the next event. (boy times have changed for me in this area!) So if you are like me and didn’t exercise much, this is a fun way to do it, find an event and “train” for it. You will be glad you did!
I was reading an article in Family Circle and found this quote about folks involved in public weight loss events:
“...they probably won’t keep up this routine once they’re outside the scrutiny and back to their real lives.”
What this author doesn’t get - the six of us are making healthy lifestyle changes not just losing weight! If you don’t make the change, you might as well not lose the weight.
I’m off to Curves and exercise - making good on my lifestyle change.
