in Care Tips:
It used to be that all sunscreen’s would indicate the amount of UVA protection they provide. While this is important, it has now been discovered that UVB protection has it’s own importance. UVB exposure/damage has been linked to a deeper layer of the skin which causes wrinkling, loss of elasticity, and discolorations of the skin.
When choosing a skin care regimen, it is important to look for some key ingredients. In the day time a moisturizer with anti-oxidants help protect you from the environments free radicals. At night, try to find a product with a retinoid in it. Retinoid’s have many different names such as Vitamin A, renova, or Retin-A. Besides Botox, Retin- A is one of the only proven wrinkle fighters and has many long term benefits.
Favorite products:
Sunscreens: For going to and from work exposure, we love La Roche Posay’s Anthelios SPF 15 ($30) with UVA and UVB protection. It serves as a moisturizer as well as a sunscreen and we encourage application to your face, neck, chest and hands. For more mature skin, TNS has created an ‘all in one’ sunscreen ($85) for those that want to get the most out of a single product. In addition to an SPF 20, it hydrates and helps fight environmentally induced skin aging with human growth factor and antioxidants. For a higher level of protection, for the beach or outdoor activities, we love Clear Choice Sport Shield SPF 45. ($29) This sunscreen has a very light, non-greasy texture and a delicious scent- cucumber melon.
Cleanser: Obagi’s Foaming Gel ($36) is a great daily cleanser for normal/dry skin and for a little more exfoliation for the normal/oily patient La Rosche Posay’s Purifying Cleanser is great. ($34)
Eye cream: Obagi’s Elastiderm ($95). This great eye cream has been clinically proven to help increase the skin’s production of Elastin, which gives skin that ‘snap’.
Daily Anti-oxidant: Allergan’s Prevage MD ($130). Full of antioxidants for protection as well as very therapeutically healing to the skin.
Wrinkle Filling Cream: La-Roche Pose’s Redermic ($46) New product that helps plump fine lines on the skin.
Nightly Moisturizer: Neova’s Crème de la Copper ($103) This rich nightly moisturizer has copper in it which has been clinically proven to firm the skin.
Hot New Product: Obagi’s Elastiderm Decolletage’ System ($199) We get countless requests on how you improve the skin color and texture on the chest area. This is a new system created by Dr. Obagi that offers a 1-2 punch in creating a more youthful, less sundamaged chest or décolletage. This system includes a skin lightning cream as well as the elastiderm system to rebuild the collagen for better texture.
Favorite all-time product: Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash ($175) What I refer to as ‘eyelash fertilizer’.
Botox:
Prevention is the best medicine. If you are starting to notice dynamic lines on your face, you can get a more ‘air brushed’ look to your skin by doing low doses of Botox. When patient’s are treating wrinkles early, they typically can use smaller doses, equaling less money. Today’s trend’s are focusing on creating an ‘air brushed’ look rather than a frozen appearance.
Most popular area to treat: Furrow between the eyebrows
Best areas to treat for prevention: Crowsfeet and smoker’s lines around the lips
Filler:
There are 2 most common misconceptions about Dermal Fillers:
1) People think that all problems are fixable with filler - and they are not.
2) If the patient has dermal filler in their lips, they will look odd and be the target of all their friends jokes
With all of the natural looking temporary fillers that are available at this time, more and more in the 30-40 year old age group are coming in to keep their thumb on the aging process. When your laugh lines begin to deepen, it is a sure way to tell a woman’s age. If you keep this area filled through the years, you end up looking younger than your age.
