Penny’s a Nurture And Hold (NAH): Nah, I won’t pull that out yet, it’s still got a green shoot. She likes dragonflies, lady bugs and new stuff only after weeding, pruning and fertilizing.

Kim Franke-Folstad

Kim’s a Want It Now (WIN): Everything pretty, everything now. She will resort to full-spectrum insecticides in desperate situations, and believes it’s her duty and right to buy new plants every weekend.

Both advocate Plant Choice (SOMEthing besides crotons. Please!), lots of color and low maintenance. We don’t agree on everything, but we’re smart enough to learn from each other - and from you.

‘Yard Crashers’-Tampa: The reveal

Sorry to be posting these so late!

I didn’t make it to “the reveal” Thursday evening, when DIY Network’s “Yard Crashers” unveiled the 48-hour ($35,000-plus) transformation of Brooke and Tom Iarossi’s backyard. But The Tribune had a photographer there, and I’ve grabbed his photos to post.

Here’s the finished outdoor kitchen with indestructible cabinets by WerEver, a local company. (For more details on all this stuff, loads o’ links, and before pictures, scroll down to the earlier posts.) I love that paver patio!

This is the view as you enter the backyard from the front yard. It looks a lot bigger than it actually is.

And it looks like the Iarossis might actually get to enjoy that new backyard today.

I love the patio pavers too, and also the garden path, the furniture, the landscaping and the swing.  I don’t think I am very fond of the kitchen set-up….to me it looks a little out of place in the natural setting.  But wow, what a difference a day (or two) makes!

Overall, it is a really, really nice job.  I’m looking forward to this episode being on TV.

That is beautiful.  Did they leave any grassy area at all or a play area for their daughter?  I wonder if they would let me come over and just sit and read under that pergola? Kay

Ah! what a lot of muscle and money can do, huh? I love those pavers too, and the garden bench area and the pergola——- I guess we are all in agreement on how nicely it all turned out, including the so so on the kitchen area. I think I’d rather have that area with some kind of cover over it. (is there one?)I can’t imagine what Mother Nature would do to that kitchen in the summer. I think I might be too lazy to clean up 2 kitchens. Our local talent did a great job on all of it. I’ll definitely look forward to that episode.

I think my favorite part is the kitchen area! it could use a cover though. In the summer I use my outdoor grill sometimes more than the indoor one [to keep from heating up the house] so I have very definite ideas on how I want it. I have two side-burner’s besides the grill itself so there isn’t much I cant cook outside. Trust me Diane don’t mind it even a little bit that we eat outside looking over our garden in the summer…..“Chip”

The pink hill lives again! last year Diane and I decided the first compost hill I made would look “pretty in pink” and it was eye catching. So I have replanted with more impatiens petunias miniature rose’s all pink and once it fills out should be something to see. I am going to Start corn the very next full moon and more tomato’s and green bean’s but first I have to finish off the Brussels sprouts I am still getting huge one’s off it and have a lot left but I have to get other stuff down soon so there is no big surprise what we will be having with our dinner!.....“Chip”
