Apparently a lot more peeps than I realized.
I was at Ultimate on Sunday, as usual, when the unimaginable occured ...
Players were upset about not getting enough time on the field!
People were threatening to (and did) leave because they didn’t want to sit on the bench.
Hold up—let me give you some perspective.
Last year, Ultimate Frisbee began as a friendly and casual (La-Z-Boy level) pickup game among colleagues across the Bay. My friend Mike used to play at UF. I used to play at UF. We decided we needed to revive the glory days.
We struggled all summer to get enough bodies for a regulation-size game (seven-on-seven) up to the start of football season. We play at 1 p.m. Sundays. The Ultimate seed we planted died a quick yet painless death Sept. 4, 2005. It was inevitable.
Enter summer 2006, and Ultimate was reborn. It was stronger than ever, sometimes luring more players than we knew what to do with.
On Sept. 10, it was do or die time. Again.
My Ultimate peeps stepped up. We had more players that day than we had during most of the summer. Rock on!
Ultimate has only grown since.
Yesterday, we had nearly 30 people show up. Instead of the total mass chaos of playing everyone, I suggested eight-on-eight with subs. I didn’t realize there would be a dozen of them.
It was not the best system for that large of a crowd, but I vow to get everyone on the field next week. No whining allowed!
There could be a Times v. Tribune/TBO/WFLA/Centro/4you/Orange/Bucs matchup. Or maybe we’ll have two games simultaneously. Or maybe I’ll start my own league every Sunday.
Wish me luck!

My girlfriend and I are heading down to Fort Lauderdale for 4 days Nov.2- Nov.6th and we were hoping to pick up with a team in the vicinity. Do you have any suggestions?
Cheers!
Mark

Probably one of the best places to find ultimate games is to visit the Ultimate Players Association Web site: http://www4.upa.org/location_summaries/FL.
Good luck! And win one for me.
