Janice Vogt—also known online as iluvpumpkins—embraces Halloween, as one might guess. In addition to orange gourds, she has a fondness for all things rusty and creaky, so this is truly Janice’s holiday.
To get the rest of us into the spirit, she shared some photos of her fall garden:

Great photos of your fall garden, Janice! Between your pumpkins and fall colors, Penny’s Vermont photos and this “cool snap” we’ve had, I’m really feelin’ the fall!!

Ok so there is hope Diane and I can grow pumpkins next year we live almost on the Hillsborough Pasco county line our pumpkins were growing like they wanted to take on the world and out of 14 plant’s 8 had pumpkins started on them about 4 inch’s around when the bug’s got them { I know this because my youngest grandson counted and measured so he could put dibs’s on the biggest one} He was not a happy camper when he saw his pumpkins were gone. or Diane who like all of you grew up in a Northern state and she just wanted a real fall garden well I tryed. and except for the pumpkins did ok ..“Chip”

Thats kind of fun information about Sligh Ave. I have never heard that before. Thanks Penny

Yes they did, Janice! And as I recall, one reached maturity in early summer, which I thought was strange. But like I said, they were a little north of us. My buddy at Treemart says there are some trees that will grow north of Sligh Avenue, but not south of Sligh, so I’m guessing pumpkins are probably just as picky

I hope so he is very handsome. My pumpkin vine also started accidently from the rotten Halloween carved one. Did their vines grow to full size with pumpkins?

The only successful home garden pumpkin growing I’ve heard about are people in southern Pasco and northernmost Hillsborough—and their pumpkins started accidentally!
I am sure UF will be motivated to develop a beautiful orange Florida pumpkin—probably with a blue stem and Tim Tebow’s face visible when you look at it just right.

Penny, Thank you for the cute little video of my garden. You can grow a pumpkin vine its gets really big, it flowers and then it dies. Florida is to hot the vines get fungus, mildew and blight. The university of Florida is working on a type we can grow in Florida, go Gaters. They like the color orange so maybe they will work relly hard to figure it out. Maybe Farmer Rick can let us know if there is really any hope in growing pumpkins in Florida. This will be my only question to him on Halloween day when we visit his farm. So the answer is I bought the pumpkins and mums at Publix. Janice aka I luvpumpkins

It is SO not easy! Janice “iluvpumpkins” needs to get on here and tell us how it’s done. (Unless she imported her pumpkins from the local Boy Scout/church patch, in which case I promise not to razz her. OK, maybe just a little)

Your garden looks lovely Janice. So far the only pumpkins I’ve grown are on Farmville. I’ll have to try the real ones someday. Is that pretty easy here in Florida?
