Sure, we might be in a bit of an economic slump right now, but it’s nothing we can’t shop our way out of, right?
After all, we did it in the forties after the Great Depression (albeit with a little boost from FDR’s New Deal, World War II, and the GI Bill), and we’ve done it through countess recessions since.
And, as it turns out, gas may be skyrocketing and groceries might be pricey, but, as a result, fashion is actually coming down to earth.
Now this is our kind of economic downturn, since, of course, we never eat anyway, and we’ve always preferred walking to driving. Not only does it create beautifully toned calf muscles, but it also allows for a lot more martinis at lunch.
(Seriously, which would you rather have: Food and petroleum products, or a pair of killer yellow pumps?)
So while this might not be the year to sell the house or buy that H2, it might be just the right time to consider investing in some of those luxury items that you’ve been pining for but seemed so ridiculously overpriced when they hit the stores.
As Glenda The Good Editor says in the June issue of Harper’s Bazaar, “there is never a bad moment to buy something you will love forever”.
Which may be true, but some moments are better than others, don’t you think?
