I visited the doc yesterday for my annual physical, and everything looked good.
Then I started telling her about my tummy troubles.
I suspect I’m lactose intolerant and gluten intolerant, which makes running a real joy.
She asked me about certain symptoms, but she couldn’t tell me definitely one way or the other.
She recommended that I give probiotics a try to help aid my digestion.
It’s just that on the mornings I run, I pay for it later. I’m OK until about a couple of hours after running.
Then the pain sets in. Or my stomach is upset. Or worse.
It’s not like I eat before I run. That’s a no-no.
But lately, I’ve been having issues on days that I hit the treadmill.
To determine if I’m intolerant to everything I eat, the doc asked me to keep a food diary.
I haven’t started yet. I’m heading to New York for the weekend and will return Monday night. I figure Tuesday is a good day to start.
I’m supposed to cut back on the gluten, focusing on meat and veggies. But I LOVE carbs! I mean, I’m a runner after all.
I stay away from milk, opting for soy, but I love yogurt. I just need to find a variety with the gut-friendly probiotics.
The doc says that if my stomach doesn’t calm down, she will do some allergy testing.
It’s on.
