Kids were arriving at Leto High at 6:30 this morning, a good hour before the first bell rang signaling the start of the 2010-2011 school year.
I met Hillsborough School Board chairwoman Susan Valdes at her alma mater this morning and it was fun watching students returning to school. It brought back many memories of the first day of school, the anticipation of a new year, the excitement of seeing old friends and the knowledge that this time was fleeting.

Students were hugging and professing their love. Parents were smiling, too, as they escorted their offspring through the Falcon doors.
Carol and Greg Pittman proudly walked into Leto with their son, 14-year-old Deon, a freshman. They were more nervous than he was, but eager to have him start this new chapter of his life - and theirs!
