Wake up. Throw on some clothes. Get out to the barn.
The animals need to be fed and watered. Need to make sure they're OK, and relatively happy.
Cows, chickens, rabbits, pigs: Champions in training can be demanding.
Some like to be brushed; others spook easily. Some like to play; others think they're in charge.
Being the best isn't easy. But it's what drives these teens - that, and their animals.
You'll find stories behind every pen at Tampa Bay's agricultural fairs. Come along as we follow the stories of several teens preparing for the 2007 fair season.
Welcome to Young Farmers’ Fare. This blog is for and about Tampa Bay area teens who show animals at regional fairs. In the next couple of months, you’ll be learning about what it takes to raise a steer, pig, chicken or rabbit and get it ready for competition. Raising these animals involves a lot of time and hard work; it’s a real commitment and takes a special person. These teens all have a lot of heart and determination, as you’ll see in their stories. Some of them are pretty darn funny, too.
We’ll update the blog as often as we receive stories. So if you plan to show an animal or know of someone who does, drop me a line at .
In the meantime, sit back and enjoy. Welcome to Young Farmers’ Fare and the start of a new fair season.
