USF and U.S. Geological Survey scientists have gone to the ends of the Earth to research ocean acidification.
Really.
They’re in the Arctic testing acidity changes in the sea as the ice recedes. Oceans become more acidic as CO2 levels in the atmosphere rise.
It’s a pretty hostile environment. At one point two weeks ago high seas cloaked their vessel in ice and one of their CO2 sensors shut down.
You can follow their progress on a blog they’re keeping, called Cold Carbon. Much of their work at this point is routine, but the photos are spectacular, as you can see.
