USF is giving away electricity, but only to people who can put it in their cars.
Last month it opened two charging stations for electric vehicles. Anyone can use them, students, faculty, people in the community.
The stations are part of a ChargePoint America grant that helped pay for more than 100 charging stations in the Tampa area.
They’re a gamble for USF, Christian Wells told Daylina Miller of the USF News service.
“They’re useless if people don’t have electric vehicles.” But he hopes that having a lot of places to charge up will encourage more people to start buying them.
“If we are going to reduce our dependency on foreign sources of energy, electric vehicles are an important start to this process. Beyond global connections, this is the right thing to do for our local environment and the biosphere.”
