ST. PETERSBURG—B.J. Upton matched Dustin Pedroia’s solo home run in the top of the inning with a shot of his own deep into the left field seats in the bottom of the third, and Carl Crawford’s RBI single gave the Rays a 4-3 lead over the Red Sox tonight in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series at Tropicana Field.
Upton’s blast off Boston starter Josh Beckett went into the deepest portion of the lower deck in left field. It was his fourth home run of the postseason and his first of the ALCS.
The Rays got their first lead of the series three batters later. Evan Longoria hit a one-out double to left field and scored on Crawford’s single to right to put Tampa Bay on top 4-3.
