I’m all for recycling, but this story pushes the decency envelope to whole nother hemisphere.
When I first saw this hair trend, I nearly upchucked my lunch. I immediately went online hoping to discover it was some kind of “urban hair myth.” To my disgust, it doesn’t seem to be. (even on snopes.com).
The story, which was first reported in the “China Daily,” says that used condoms are being recycled and sold as hair ties in China. The condom hair bands are much cheaper than those that are not made from used prophylactics.
The recycled condoms are popular; but risk infecting users with the diseases they were meant to prevent.
Lawd have mercy!
I’ve got a large assortment of hair ornaments (no doubt some of them made in China). The thought that something so disturbing could be hiding beneath that pretty thread makes me want to take each of them apart and inspect what’s inside.
I really don’t want to go there, but think of how many times you’ve used your mouth as a “third” hand when you’re pulling your hair back with a tie?
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
