Penny’s a Nurture And Hold (NAH): Nah, I won’t pull that out yet, it’s still got a green shoot. She likes dragonflies, lady bugs and new stuff only after weeding, pruning and fertilizing.
Kim’s a Want It Now (WIN): Everything pretty, everything now. She will resort to full-spectrum insecticides in desperate situations, and believes it’s her duty and right to buy new plants every weekend.
Both advocate Plant Choice (SOMEthing besides crotons. Please!), lots of color and low maintenance. We don’t agree on everything, but we’re smart enough to learn from each other - and from you.

Remember the “Yard Crashers” visit back in March? The very hunky Ahmed Hassan came to town to find a Tampa yard to crash, and FOD Janna Begole and I went to Lowe’s early on a Sunday morning to watch. Hundreds of fans showed up, begging for yard makeovers.

It was a lot of fun watching Ahmed talking to and joking with fans — very nice to see a celebrity who’s as down-to-earth in person as he is on TV. Kim and I also popped in at the makeover house a couple times to watch the work in progress and talk to the local contractors who designed the cool features: a large waterfall-fountain that explodes with fire, an outdoor kitchen, plants, pavers and a remote-controlled synchronized light system.
Now we finally get to see the whole thing start to finish. The episode will premiere Tuesday night at 11 on the DIY Network (136 on Bright House in Tampa; 167 on Verizon). It’s the opening show for season 4 of “Yard Crashers.” Here’s a sneak-peek preview to whet your appetite.
Tom and Brooke Iarossi were the makeover winners. I talked to Brooke yesterday about how the new backyard is working out. She says she still can’t believe it all happened — from being chosen to working with the “Crashers” crew (“We had so much fun with them”) to having such a luxurious backyard.
“The outdoor kitchen area we seem to use a lot,” she said. “We entertain out there a lot. … We turn everything on (the fountain, the lights.)”

They also enjoy lots of outdoor family dinners with daughter Isabella, 13 months.
I asked Brooke how the garden part of it was going, and she recalled that I had posted, back in March, that it looked like she was patting the ground with her rake when everyone was ripping out grass and weeds for the makeover. (Who knew she was reading? I thought she was busy!)

“I’m not that girly!” she said yesterday. “I know how to rake! … Ahmed was showing us a different technique.”
I promised her I’d set the record straight, so there you have it. And also to the good, she says she and Tom have kept all the new landscaping alive.

Glad to hear that Tom and Brooke are still enjoying their new back yard. Congrats to them for keeping all the landscaping alive. We all know how challenging that can be sometimes!
Thanks for letting us know when the eposide will air. I’ll be watching!!
Penny, if the purple pygmy cuttings work, I’ll give you another one. I’ll start some more too, in case anyone else is interested. The fragrance is great if you like the smell of Double Bubble!

Penny, thank you for rooting that black-eyed Susan vine for me! My trellis is BARE since I pulled out that gigantic weed vine that didn’t bloom. Duh.
Looks like a rainy weekend. I’m NOT complaining - I just had to bring all of my potted succulents up to a temporary spot under the covered patio. They were screaming, “ENOUGH ALREADY!” As for me, guess if it’s raining tomorrow I’ll get to spend a relaxing Saturday watching DIY network…

Oh I hope we don’t have rain on Sunday! I want to cook steaks on my grill and watch my race! rain on Sunday would mess up both! I already set my T.V. for Tuesdays show! I bet they do not announce where they are going to be ahead of time anymore. You said it was a mobbed and from what I saw on your trailer you were not joking! I bet Lowe’s loved it. Tell Brooke we can tell if someone using a rake or faking, I have six grand-kids and have seen all matter of pretend work! But will not judge until I have seen the show!...“Chip”

No not an oracle I just went down the list. Starting from last summer it was to hot, last fall to dry , last winter to cold. Then this spring to dry. Okay What so is left to wet? I got a good look at my cantaloupe yesterday and they are close to basket ball sized [ not ready yet though] but my sugar baby’s look ready! I have some mild peppers I am going to stuff and cook with my steaks if the rain will just stay away! I gave the peppers that were to hot for me to the maintenance workers here in the park I did warn them how hot they are. This is the third season for these peppers so I guess they matured. ....“Chip”

Happy 4th, everyone!
I think this subject was on the last post, but my yellow pear tomato that I got from Penny that she got from Chip is really growing. Good thing I read here to put it outside so the bees can get to it! I had it in the screened lanai and may not have gotten any tomatoes otherwise!
Take it easy, Pumpkin - good to let Mr. Grumpy dig.
Hope you get some grilling in, Chip!

Happy 4th everyone!! Janna the holly hocks seeds you gave me did great!! I put most of them at my daughters house and all of those bloomed. the ones at my house not yet. But she has great soil and I do not I am still as always working on mine. The kittens have to go before they lose there “cute” they love it when I weed and mock attack me or my rake. They haven’t got a butterfly yet but it isn’t from lack of trying. I will miss them…“Chip”

Not to worry, I have several volunteers to place the roses in the ground.
You guys know I went to my mentors house to recuperate and came home two days ago. This has to do with feral kittens, my daughter brought one home and it is nursing and getting milk from my pug who has never had puppies! I google it and it is common, must people think it cute. Mr Grumpy does not like it hence the name. Pumpkin

I have never seen that for myself but I am not surprised. All of these guys are eating on there own so that will not be necessary. Wild!! I am the only one they will let them touch. If I had a big enough place I would fix them and turn them lose. watching them chase butterfly’s is just to funny butterfly’s, 10 kittens 0 and the evil rake they hiss at it when they go by it. like I said I going to miss them….“Chip”

Pumkin, looking forward to the photos of your planting at Positive Park today. Wish I could go, but after a nice long weekend, duty calls and I must return to work.
Glad the hollyhock seeds did well for your daughter, Chip. I’m sure yours will bloom, too. Penny, I did cut the stalks off after the pods turned dark brown. Most (not quite all) of the hollyhocks then came back from the bottom.
My cat’s whiskers are hanging in there, but I think I have the “moths” eating datura leaves…
