Dropped in the other day to meet Nicole Rogers, the owner of The Cupcake Spot on south Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.
The cupcake shop opened about a month ago. Since then, sales of the boutique cupcakes have been booming.
“We keep selling out,” she told me today. “Apparently, Tampa likes its cupcakes.”
Each cupcake sells for $2.75, while a dozen goes for $30. Flavors include such whimsical names as Chocolate Elvis, Bunny Hops and Swirley Temple. They also have a Red Velvet cupcake covered in cream-cheese frosting that is crazy good.
Rogers says she’s already hearing from cupcake fanatics. She answered the phone one day and heard someone scream, “CUPCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!”
Another person called to get directions, saying that she plans her vacation trips based on whether a city has a cupcake shop.
