My pals from University Community Hospital made it out today to the Moffitt Business Center—next to Busch Gardens—where I work.
They were here to offer a series of health screenings.
Although I didn’t make an appointment ahead of time, I made my way in anyway. Thanks, Nancy!
I ran into Pam, Diane, Arnold and the gang. They were swamped from 8 to noon.
Diane pricked my finger for my cholesterol and blood sugar results. She also took my blood pressure and pulse.
She liked my numbers.
Total Cholesterol: 163
HDL: 87!
Ratio: 1.9
Blood sugar (nonfasting): 72
Blood pressure: 111/52
Pulse: 49
I checked my cholesterol after I donated blood a week ago, and it was 140. I guess 162 isn’t so bad.
Diane was surprised that my good cholesterol was up to 87, which is phenomenal. Ideally you want it to be more than 40 mg/dl.
She asked if I was fasting because my blood sugar was at 72. She obviously doesn’t know me very well.
I eat no fewer than 17 meals a day. “Fasting” is not in my vocabulary.
A normal range if you’re fasting is 70 to 110 mg/dl. I’m not big into sugar, so it’s all good.
Finally, Diane was pretty impressed that my resting heart rate was 49 beats per minute.
“Do you run?” she asked.
“So I can eat.”
Then it was off to see Arnold and get my body fat analysis.
Weight of lean body mass: 91.99 pounds
Percentage of lean body mass: 76.7 percent
Weight of body fat: 28.01 pounds
Percentage of body fat: 23.3 percent
Lean body mass to fat ratio: 3.3 to 1
The Health Management Program ELG Data Report says my goal is to optimize my body composition. Just in time for bathing suit season.
Next I got my bone density screening. I had to put my foot in a machine to check the density in my heel.
The woman helping me was confused by my results.
“Can I try this test on you again?”
So she did. And she came up with the same number.
“Is it bad?” I asked.
“No. It’s off the charts, and it’s really good. Do you run?”
“Yes.”
“Do you lift weights?”
“Yes.”
“OK. You’re doing great!”
I scored a 3.9 (ideal being between +2 and -1).
Finally I got my C-reactive protein test. It required a small vial of blood to be drawn.
The test determines your risk for developing heart disease.
The nurses said the results would be mailed to our houses in the next few weeks.
Several of my colleagues also were screened, with varying results.
Poor Michelle. She hates needles. But I talked her into getting checked out.
She made it out alive—barely. Check out all the pricks!

I love the blog! All that poking doesn’t sound like fun. I’m sure my results wouldn’t be quite so good. And Michelle said it wasn’t any fun!
All that running you do seems to pay off!
