Should Food Network have fired “Dinner: Impossible” host Robert Irvine for embellishing his resume?
The feedback from readers of The Stew is decidedly in Irvine’s corner. It almost makes me think Travel Channel or Bravo should pick up the pieces and bring Irvine onboard.
I don’t care if Robert Irvine was a part-time potato peeler on a Dude Ranch or a celebrity info-smut peddler on TMZ… he’s fantastic! He has great personality, a great show and probably embellished because it’s difficult to get an opportunity such as this otherwise. He’s awesome to watch & I WILL FOLLOW HIM TO ANOTHER NETWORK…

Pittsburgh, PAWhy on earth would you cancel Robert Irvine AND Emeril. These two, the Iron Chef and Alton Brown are the only food shows worth watching.
Rita Johnson
Houston, TexasHe didn’t impersonate a chef - he IS a chef. He just improved upon his accomplishments, when he should have gone on his own merit. It’s a shame, I really like him and his show….

Lets’ face it, some of us blow it, plain and simple and he did- HOWEVER- when you watch his show, see him in action the man is incredibly entertaining as well as talented. Let’s move on and get him on the air for some more.

I have enjoyed watching Chef Irvine and his “big guns” on Dinner Impossible” since the show began. I am a long time fan of FN, but I am suprised at the lack of judgment used in “terminating” Irvine. Not an effective firing, but decision not to renew his contract. Same thing. I was criticized for omitting a work reference from my resume. It was suggested that the omission was a misrepresentation of my experience. Who hasn’t left off a bad work reference? He is an accomplished Chef, who provides entertainment and education to those of us chef wannabes. After all, Rachel continues to profess that she is “not a chef” yet extremely successful for FN. Give Chef Robert Irvine another chance!

The top Brass at Foodnetwork seam to have way of srewing up their programing.
just as they messed up with Emeril, they found a poor excuse to ax Robert Irvine. Just another reason not to watch their Channel. It’s time to clean house at that network.

It is a dumb decision to not renew Robert’s Show. It is a Great Show and he is a great guy. I will be watching to see what station picks him up and will follow.

Food Network what were you thinking of….Robert Irvine is great, his show is great, his recipes are great. I will follow him to another network rather then deal with the crap that is there now. Lets face it the only people worth watching is Alton, Emeril, Ina and Giada otherwise no one is watching. Brooke Johnson needs to rethink what she has done.

For those still so concerned about the exposure of Robert Irvine’s dishonesty on his resume, I feel compelled to ask: Has anyone besides me heard of, “The quality of mercy”? The Food Network should keep Mr. Irvine right where he is, on Dinner: Impossible. The man is just too good to cut loose for the sort of stupidity that he got caught up in. So he lied, how about the effect on his family, you know the wife & kids. Isn’t that a more serious subject than a TV show?? Let the man keep his job & grow up. Seems to me he’s more of a rather small & insecure child dressed up in a rather large man’s body.

I know a chef who applied for a position in Atlantic City. Irvine interviewed him. But Irvine was more interested in telling of his own achievements than in hearing my friend’s.
The lies he told the Food Network were the same lies he told in the interview. It wasn’t a one time thing. He’s been telling the same tales for years.
I have lost all respect for him.

Apparently, all of us can get a gig on Food Network just by dreaming up a fancy resume. This isn’t the first time this situation has come up. Doesn’t Food Network do a background check on anyone they put on their network? What about that guy, Jag, from “The Next Food Network Star”? It’s my opinion that if the people at Food Network let this slip by them and they’ve already established the fan base and have the ratings, what’s the big deal? They’ve made themselves look bad, not Robert.

I really enjoy this show as well as Emeril Live. I’ve watched the Food network for many years and turned my family onto it as well. I feel that letting Chief Irvine go is a huge mistake. All the shows I love they are taking off the air and putting on this crap that I don’t want to watch. I really hope that this site and many more emails the Food network to let them know that the majority wants this show to continue!

I agree completely with the other readers. I watch Robert Irvine because his knowledge and capabilites are simply astonishing, even jaw-dropping when you consider the challenges he masters every week. To me, his resume is irrelevant because in each show I can actually see and appreciate his talent and mastery of the culinary arts. I think his management skills are underappreciated. I’m just awed by what he accomplishes.

Robert Irvine is one of the 2 best CHEF’s on your network. He knows how to get a job done right and how to organize people for one purpose. His use of different ingrediants can only come from a very knowledgeable CHEF.

I think that we need to appreciate the fact that we enjoy his personality and
his show. I really do not care if what
was on the resume’ I really enjoy the show and enjoy his personality. He is a much better entertainer than some of the new show foodnetwork has put on!

It is the president of “Food Network,” Brooke Johnson, who should be fired! Perhaps she could then go to work for her better-known brother, “Dodge Johnson.” And while we’re at it, let’s conduct a THOROUGH background investigation (i.e., “witch hunt”) of claims not only made on a resume, but of ALL the verbal representations and statements of Food Network executives. And while we’re on the subject, it really chaps my a** that our “Commander-in-Thief” can blatantly lie about something as serious as war and still keep his job, while a minor and unfortunate exaggeration costs Chef Irvine his job. What is wrong with this world???!!!

You have got to be kidding me. Letting him go for “enhancement of his resume”? PLEASE! Let us review every resume of all other Food Network employees, including the upper managment and see if there are any other “enhancement of resumes”! I can almost guarantee you there are. LEAVE HIM ON AND REKNEW HIS CONTRACT of you will loose me as a faithful watcher of the Food Network and have been for the past 6 years. I will follow Robert anywhere and not look back.

If I were food network, I would consider two things: first, if it hadn’t been for the lies we saw on his resume, would we have still hired him? Second, do we want someone with no integrity working for us? (I know, I know, integrity isn’t very popular anymore, but I still think it’s kind of important.)
Side note: Irvine’s show is NOT good, and he is a jerk to everyone who he works with. Why should anyone cut him a break?

Yes, he may have lied about a few things on his resume, but give me a break!!!! Why fire the guy over it, punish him in other ways but NOT FIRE HIM!!!!
I’m a HUGE FAN of the show and can’t believe you won’t forgive him and give him another chance!!!! It is my FAVORITE SHOW and if you replace him, then I’M GONE!!! Emeril is leaving, and now Robert, whose next, Paula??? Seems you guys always get rid of the good guys and leave crap on tv. Who cares about Delicisioso (SP?) and other little shows like that….leave the good ones on or you won’t have anymore people watching your network!!
Was a fan of the network!!!

Robert Irving has one of the best shows on the Food Network, and the man can cook! A shame he embellished his resume because he didn’t need to. I think it’s crazy not to renew his contract. He apologized and that’s good enough for me. I look forward to seeing his show renewed for another season, if those at The Food Network come to their senses, and don’t disappoint loyal viewers like me.

Robert Irvine is OUTSTANDING. He is gifted and I cannot imagine you will find a replacement. The “embellishment” of resumes occurs everywhere, including the field of medicine. It is well known that many with spectacular “on-paper” resumes/achievements in medicine are not necessarily the best doctors. Robert has clearly excelled in “Dinner Impossible”, has a huge number of fans, and you may as well cancel the show if you do not renew his contract.

I think Robert should keep his job on the following conditions: He give a public service address about his error in judgement prior to his show. Then do some push-ups and try to cook a meal for six from the stuff I have in my ‘fridge for my family. That should be sufficent punishent for him.

I am a chef as well and this is a silly reason to let someone go. I mean who doesn’t embellish even a little bit on their resume. Big deal, the one they should really let go is that fake “wannabe” chef Racheal Ray!!

If Robert Irvine is released from Food Network for resume “enhancement”, then by the same standards I would expect that more that 75% of Congress would be released from their offices. How ridiculous! His show is very entertaining. Food Network is heading downhill in my opinion. More cooking and less fluff!

Robert Irvine was indeed wrong for embelishing on his resume. Whoever was supose to be checking this in the beginning was the person who allowed this to happen. Checking out the info given to to the Food NEtwork was there responsibility.
