Who doesn’t like sequined gowns, sexy swimwear and beautiful women—at least the illusion of beautiful women?
Female impersonators will strut, shimmy and dress to impress Sunday for the chance to be crowned Miss Gay Florida USofA and Miss Gay Florida USofA Classic.
And this year, I’ve got a front row seat as a judge!
I attended last year and was amazed by this competition. The contestants were flamboyant, confident and had lots of attitude. The gowns were beyond beautiful. The talent rivaled that of Broadway musicals and boy can these fellas’ do some hair and makeup! the crowd was filled with excitement. I walked away that night with a new appreciation for the art of drag, and it truly is an art. The men you see on the stage in the Miss Gay Florida USofA are 100 percent male. But a lot of them could give some of the more traditional beauty queens a run for their money.
The pageant will consist of a question-and-answer session, a talent competition and swimwear. Last year it was standing-room-only. And it will probably be that way this year, too. The action begins at 9 p.m. at the Honey Pot, 1507 E. 7th Ave. in Ybor City. But get there early if you want to get a good seat! Tickets are $20.
See you there!
Check back on Monday for photos from this pageant spectacular!
