I can’t survive on little to no sleep like I used to.
This weekend proved that.
I had a loooong week because 1) I was in New York on Monday, 2) John McCain visited Moffitt on Tuesday and 3) all my work kept piling up. I attended a networking event Tuesday night and played kickball Wednesday. Thursday was my only night off.
Instead of retiring Friday, I spent the evening with about 25 of my closest pals at Fly in downtown Tampa. That was after making a brief appearance at the Paddler’s Party at the Ritz Ybor (formerly Masquerade).
Friday evening ended at Four Green Fields.
It was an entertaining night! Unfortunately, I had to be at the Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Races by 8:30 the next morning. Ouch.
I was on the Moffitt Flying Dragons II team. We might not have overtaken TECO, but we catapulted to Division C this year!
We finished with a 2:10:32, but our first race of the day was our best at 1:57. That’s a new Moffitt record!
I made only two of our three races Saturday because I had to scoot out early and primp for the Magnolia Ball, to benefit Moffitt. It was a black-tie event, which meant wearing a gown and painful shoes all night.
My dragon boat partner-in-crime Mitzi and I made it to A La Carte Pavilion about 4:30 to quickly eat dinner of filet mignon, roast pork, asparagus, mashed potatoes, sweet potato and peanut brittle casserole, and more before getting started. Mmm.
The rest of the night was one big whirlwind, from working registration to assisting in the live auction to listening to Chicago perform to rounding up pledge forms—raising more than $3 million to benefit Moffitt—to noshing on Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the end of the night.
I left just before I turned into a pumpkin!
I slept hard and got up Sunday in time to hit the beautiful beaches of Treasure Island for the day. We relaxed on the sand, hit the water, threw the Frisbee around and skimboarded (sort of).
My No. 1 goal for this week: Catch up on sleep!
