Designer Maria Pinto, whose best-known for designing the purple sheath dress Michelle Obama wore during the presidential primaries, has closed up shop at her Chicago boutique and is expected to seek bankruptcy protection this week.
“The economic challenges and soft buying trends at the top end of the apparel market” contributed to her going out of business, Pinto told the Chicago Sun-Times.
She said she is confident her name will not go away. But she will take a temporary break from the design business.
